April, 2008:
Rafal Olbinski’s striking surreal artwork has been prominently featured in the EARTH DAY 08 NY campaign! Rafal was commissioned to create a special mural in Grand Central Station, NYC where the festivities will take place. Rafal’s EARTH DAY 08 artworks appear on subway advertisements as well as on flyers being distributed at several NYC museums and various locations about town.
Earth Week in Grand Central includes The Giant Earth Images installation, which features Earth-related artwork, photographs, quotes and messages that are projected on two giant pillars in the Main Concourse of Grand Central Terminal. Several well-known artists are featured amongst the Giant Earth Images, including Andy Warhol, Rafal Olbinski, Keith Haring, Robert Rauschenberg and Romero Britto. The continual projections are accompanied by nature sounds, which attract the attention of commuters moving through Grand Central.
The paintings by Rafal Olbinski communicate strong messages about protecting the environment. One example features a beautiful swan in a river beside a line of trees shaped as human faces. “I wanted to humanize the trees as a reminder that people so often forget that plants, like humans, are living species too.” Olbinski said. “It is a reminder we had better appreciate and care for all life on earth.” The masterful paintings of New York City-based artist, Rafal Olbinski, regularly appear in major publications such as Newsweek, Time, Business Week, Atlantic Monthly, The New York Times and New Yorker.

Lempicka News:
One of MMI’s long-term projects has been the development
and growth of the public’s awareness of Art Deco Icon Tamara
de Lempicka, on behalf of the Estate. Lempicka’s
visionary artwork epitomizes the decadence and glamour of Paris
in the 1920s and 30s.
MMI collaborated with London’s Royal Academy, during the spring of 2004 to
organize the first major Lempicka retrospective in the UK. Her
elegant and extravagant lifestyle was documented in its totality
by this stunning exhibit which featured 55 works loaned from
various galleries and private collectors.
MMI represents and honors Victoria de Lempicka,
granddaughter of Tamara, and made all necessary arrangements
for European press and media to interview Victoria, who arrived
in London to open the exhibition on May 18, 2004. Eleven years
of work went into preparing the details that formed the possibility
of this great event! Marilyn Goldberg, President of MMI, and
Jason LeBlond, Creative Director, were noted in the Royal Academy’s
catalogue raisonné for their excellence in set-up of
exhibition needs.
MMI developed all the merchandise for the RA’s gift shop,
which included a high quality stationery line of calendars,
agendas, notebooks, greeting cards, bookmarks and posters by LEM Art
Group of Milano, Italy. RA, under official license through MMI,
also featured an exhibition catalogue, postcard book, refrigerator
magnets, exhibition poster, fashion tops & knickers sets,
tote bags and a music cd with tunes from the Art Deco era. In
Tamara “larger then life” fashion, an enormous banner
utilizing a dramatic photo of Tamara circa 1938, provided by
MMI, was displayed outside the exhibition entrance. (Pictured
Below.) The retrospective next completed a successful run at The Kunstforum Museum, Vienna in September
of 2004.
Further enhancing the nouveau boom of Art Deco was a separate
exhibition celebrating the entire Art Deco époque, which
traveled from London’s V & A to San
Francisco’s Legion of Honour and finally MFA, Boston. Tamara’s “Jeune Fille en Vert
(Girl in Green)” was the enticing cover girl for all promotional
materials for this exhibition. The assorted exhibitions stimulated
a myriad of new licensing venues for this incredible painter
and incredible woman, who was so ahead of her times!
In May of 2004 Tamara’s “Portrait of Mrs. Bush”
set an auction record, hammering in at $4.5 million dollars! |
“Deco Diva”
Proving that Tamara
is more alive then ever, in April of 2005 MMI announced the
New York City premier of Deco Diva, a one woman show written
by British actress/singer/artist Kara Wilson. The play, performed
at the 59 E 59 Theater, is an adaptation of the book Passion
by Design by Baroness Kizette Foxhall de Lempicka, Tamara’s
daughter. Tamara’s story is brought brilliantly to life
as Wilson embodies the enigmatic, exotic diva not only in words
and music but also as an accomplished painter! She amazes audiences
by completing a study of Lempicka’s “Le Reve(The
Dream)” within an hour’s time, during each performance!
Further, Lempicka’s work was highlighted as a mural backdrop
in CBS’s popular show CSI, in
a finale episode directed by Quentin Tarantino. Lempicka’s work was selected for its sensual grace, as a way to enhance the following Van Cleef & Arpels Jewelry advertising campaign!
